it's interesting to hear how visitors perceive a country's culture - yoshoku is like comfort food for people of my generation. I guess kids these days eat a lot more sophisticated dishes and it's understandable that the "Showa Retro Kissa" is now a a popular novelty.

Ottimo filmato, complimenti.

As a Hawaiian citizen, it might help if you added Hawaiian food still has a very strong presence in our diet, and not just poke. Laulau, kalua pig, haupia, chicken long rice, Hawaiian sweet potato, breadfruit, Kauai Kulolo, poi, boiled taro, squid luau etc. are usually a diner away.

The word 'pan' comes from Italian or Spanish, because it was introduced in Japan by Catholic missionaries, and not by Portuguese traders, precisely, 'pan'.

Austrian here: If you really wanted to get the Viennese vibe, why did you only highlight one of the most touristy of tourist coffee houses in the city? Café Central isn't even that "authentic" - in its present form, it was rebuilt and reopened some 20 years ago and has been in every tourist guidebook since then (more of a Disneyland version of a Viennese Kaffeehaus). It doesn't go a very long way to explaining anything. Just off the top of my head, better places for researching Kaffeehauskultur would have been: Café Eiles, Café Rathaus, Café Goldegg, Café Rüdigerhof, Cafè Raimann, and so many others. Also: A Kaffeehaus is something different from a Starbuck's, and when I go there, my phone is charged (you might as well gripe about there being no charging stations on the tramway which there aren't). Or I carry a power bank along. Also, a lot of Kaffeehäuser offer (free) Wifi. Btw, no one prevents you from looking at your phone in a Kaffeehaus, the newspapers are just additional value (my local phone plan includes 30 per month GB of data service). Oh, and I hate the fake friendly, tip-oriented service culture in the US. Give me a grumpy waiter who will leave me alone and not disturb me every 10 minutes at any time. On the whole: Your research is a bit lazy, your video might have profited from actually talking to some locals.

As someone who works in human rights, I'm so happy and impressed that you decided to tackle this topic! It's not easy and takes a lot of courage, so I really applaud that and also your attempts to show empathy to all the fears that everyone has as it's an important part of the peace process. However, similar to some of the other feedback here, I do wish you would consider updating the video (looking at the post date of many months ago) to add further context that is part of the reporting of respected human rights institutions like the UN, Human Rights Watch, and the UN Special Rapporteur for the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Namely, more explicitly talking about the 1948 Nakba and 75 years of occupation that have led to this vicious cycle, that the 'war' is now widely accepted as actually being a genocide - the latest escalation in an ongoing genocide and apartheid against Palestinians, and that the blockade is not just for security but part of a wider, orchestrated effort to maintain apartheid and oppressive conditions against Palestinians. These are not focusing 'just on one side', but are widely accepted and reported facts by both Israeli and Palestinian historians- see Avi Shlaim, Ilan Pappe, Ghada Karmi. On another note, if you choose to do an update, there are so many amazing 'food resistance' tiktokers and instagrammers now reporting live on the food conditions and the amazing things they can do with them (maqluba, homemade ovens, and more) that would be amazing to feature! I just discovered your channel a few days ago and have already recommended it to a lot of people. Thanks for the great work!

Hello, I am from Turkey. Pilaf (or as we call it Pilav) is one of main Turkish side dishes for centuries. We always have beans, meatballs or chicken as a main dish with pilaf. The brown thick sauce looks like Balkanian-Turkish dish called Gulash and/or Yahni. This is also one of the special dishes in Ottoman Empire Cuisine. So i guess, pilaf and sauce part of that dish is inspired by Turkish-Balkanian food. Cheers and smiles… 😋

I don't want to make a long list of dishes that you haven't mentioned, your video has the right point of view because it talks about regional cuisine. I would just like to correct some serious errors. To be more precise, chickpea farinata is from Genova and dates back to the 13th century. Porchetta comes from Ariccia in Lazio or Norcia in Umbria. The arrosticini are typical of Abruzzo and not of Puglia. Sardinia, isolated for millennia, has a very particular cuisine and desserts of extraordinary beauty (look for coricheddos and durchiceddos). And Calabria?
